The Gesäuse is one of those places where this connection with nature is still palpable today. After all, the region of the Gesäuse National Park and the Steirische Eisenwurzen Nature Park has been known as the University of Mountaineering for centuries. Climb the Gesäuse mountains and you’ll be able to climb any mountain. And that’s not only true for hiking in summer, but also for ski touring in winter.
Get your ski touring career started with our Ski Touring BaseCamp. Mountaineering legends like Skyrunner Christian Stangl or René Guhlwill be teaching you all the basics about ski touring. The workshops take place at Landgasthof Buchner where you’ll expand your vocabulary with terms like “kick turn” or “skins”. Afterwards it’s off to the practical part to take your first steps in the powder.
After our three-day course, you’ll be well prepared for your new hobby. We teach you all there is to know so you can plan and execute tours up to a moderately difficult level. Our little extra: Your guides know the Gesäuse inside out and will pass on some insider tips like where to find the best tours, where to get the most stunning views, and where to enjoy some local delicacies after your tour.
