Sulzkaralm Pasture

Sulzkaralm Hut

Sulzkaralm is said to be one of the most beautiful huts in the National Park. Why so? Maybe it’s because of the marmots standing beside or because of the sparkling Sulzkarsee Lake reflecting the image of a chamois. Difficult to say really, but one of nature’s treasures high up on the mountain is surely responsible for earning the hut its title.

Sulzkaralm Hut is mostly mentioned together with Hartelsgraben notch. In order to get to the idyllic mountain pasture you first have to cross the beautiful notch, which is in no way inferior to the hut itself when it comes to scenic views. The waterfalls, the green mountainsides and the roaring Hartelsbach Creek are sure to impress, while the cold air at the notch provides the perfect conditions for hot summer days.

Hesshütte Lodge as your neighbour

If you wish you can also take an alternative route – you can also get to Sulzkaralm Hut from Hesshütte Lodge, i.e. from Johnsbach. This route is particularly beautiful as it includes the ‘Sulzkarhund’ scenic point, which offers amazing views of the wild and romantic pasture.

In love with the pastures

When you finally get to the not managed Sulzkaralm Hut it is time for a little refreshment. This is the perfect spot to reward yourself with a schnapps or for simply taking off your hiking boots and airing out your feet. And don’t forget to enjoy this moment, because you are right in the heart of one of the most beautiful places on earth.

By reading the charts along the way you’ll discover the history of logging and of course there are far worse things than hiking in the Hartelsgraben Notch and ending the hike at the beautiful Sulzkaralm pasture.
