Naturfreundehütte Lodge also goes by the name of Bergbauern-Lackneralm Lodge and is located at 1,020 metres above sea level. How to get there? Follow trail 283 from Bergbauer farm in Palfau for about one hour. It will take you to this cosy self-catering hut with a dormitory for 16 people. From mid-May to mid-September the lodge becomes a true eldorado for hikers and nature lovers alike.
A particularly popular destination that can be reached from the lodge in a total walking time of 1.5 hours is Gamsstein Peak, which stands at 1,774 metres high. But that’s far from being the only thing to do – there is also a loop trail that will take you from Palfau to the Naturfreundehütte Lodge, atop Gamsstein Peak, to Moaralm Lodge and back to Palfau in six hours. On the way you will come across lots of natural beauties that you might actually fall for.
The location of the lodge is also convenient for bikers on the Buchstein tour and offers amazing views of the Salzatal Valley and the Gesäuse Mountains, which always show their friendly side here and greet every single visitor. When returning the greeting make sure to shout out a joyful ‘Hello’ or ‘Griaß di’ in Austrian dialect. But wait, there’s someone else calling for attention – it’s Hochschwab Peak, which can also be seen from the lodge. High up above Palfau at this cosy lodge the world looks pretty darn good.
The lodge opens on weekends from mid-May to mid-September
